Royal LePage Shelter Foundation
Violence against women is an unfortunate act that occurs in our country. Though there are a number of great shelters in communities across Canada to provide support and resources to women affected by this, there is not enough awareness to lead to an end.
Royal LePage has developed the Royal LePage Shelter Foundation to do just that; provide funding for shelters and shelter resources and to help raise awareness and put an end to this crime against women.
Fund raising events held by this organization have raised more than $420,000 in Canada in 2011 which was a 35% increase when compared to previous years efforts. It's working, and I am on board.
Here is an excerpt from their website explaining how donations help:
How Your Donations Have Made a Difference
Royal LePage; "How Your Donations Have Made a Difference"; http://www.royallepage.ca/shelter ... accessed January 8th 2012
Over this past year, your donations have been plentiful and have helped in numerous ways. Thanks to your support, women's shelters across the country have been able to provide art therapy programs and build playgrounds for children, renovate bedrooms and common areas to serve more women and children, offer employment training and job search programs, staff 24 hour crisis lines and meet critical needs such as food, housing, therapy, child care and other support.
In addition to what the Shelter Foundation has donated to women's shelters nationwide, thousands of youth have participated in the Fourth R program, learning about healthy relationships in order to stop the cycle of violence against women and children. Through our partnership with the Canadian Women's Foundation, we have also supported programs for girls and boys related to dating violence, building self-confidence and developing life skills and numerous programs that help women and their children re-build their lives after violence.
In so many ways, supporters of the Shelter Foundation have strengthened the shelter system in Canada, supported efforts to end family violence through education, and allowed for a range of critical services to be offered to women and children escaping family violence.
As a firm believer in the importance of this cause, I am committed to donating a portion of each commission check I receive to help this foundation succeed.
I encourage you to visit their website at: http://www.royallepage.ca/shelter to learn more about their cause and how you can help.
